No Longer Buying Store Bought Sauces Because Of My Food Processor

I had never really paid attention to all of the sugar and preservatives that come in store bought sauces. One of our favorite things in our family is Italian food. So with the pasta, sauce and oftentimes cheese, it can add up to a lot.

Aside from that, I typically use different types of sauces on just about everything that I make, no matter what it is. I was appalled when I started paying attention to labels. It was then that I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands.

I sat down to do some intense research. I was surprised to find that I could make up my own tomato sauce for pasta from actual tomatoes and freeze it for quite a while! This would totally eliminate my need to purchase any store bought sauce. Even in a pinch I’d have my frozen stash.

Aside from that, I could really get creative with other types of sauces that I might use on different types of meat. I could purée different fruits, veggies and herbs to make different creations fairly easily. There was so much information on the Internet in terms of things to try out.

The main component to making all of these things was a food processor. I had used my parents’ food processor on several occasions, but not enough to ever purchase my own. It was looking like it was time to go for it. I did some research and stumbled on KitchenWorksInc, where I found the  Cuisinart DFP-14BCWNY Food Processor . I went ahead and purchased it and patiently awaited its arrival.

When it arrived, I started off with a traditional marinara sauce. I made sure that I had the appropriate containers freeze the sauce in, and that I had the space to store it all. Once I checked those off my list, it was time to get started on the main event.

The recipe was pretty straightforward, but it was a whole new experience for me since I’d never done this before. I typically made sauce from canned ingredients, and in a pinch I’ve used jarred sauces too.

It was a lot less labor intensive and time consuming than I’d imagined. I was able to doctor it up as I tasted it throughout the process. It was really fun. There was something really authentic feeling about it.

I allowed my family to give it a try prior to actually using it in a dish. The general consensus was positive; everyone loved it! There’s just something different about a sauce that’s made from scratch.

The following week I decided to make up 2 different sauces. One was a spicy raspberry sauce and the other was a caramelized onion sauce. The first I made with chicken and the other with steak. They were both amazing.

It’s been about 6 months since I started all of this and I can honestly say I haven’t bought any sauces that are pre made from the store. We don’t even consider going back to any of that. Our food is more nutritious now and we can definitely feel that change in a positive way.
